Haircuts

I had my hair cut earlier today, something that got me thinking about haircuts and bad hair days and things like that. It also got me hunting for this photo of my mother from the early 70’s. If I’m not mistaken, she’s wearing a wig.

My worst haircut experience was in 6th grade. The barber cut my hair so short that I went to school the next day with a stocking hat on my head (a New York Rangers stocking cap, no less). At recess a kid in class wrestled the cap off of my head and started to laugh. I socked him in the face.

Really.

Then I ran.

Today’s Prompt: What’s your worst haircut story?

  1. Believe it or not my worst hair cut was about three weeks ago. In the last couple of years I have started going to ‘barber shops’ to get my haircut as I wear it extremely short. This time I had a black barber who had never cut a woman’s hair before and did not know what to do. I told him just cut it the way you would a man’s. I told him cut it just like it is only take off about an inch and a half all over.

The second barber in the shop gave him some tips and he began. But he just could not seem to ge the hang of it — he pulled up a big shank of my hair and cut it across with the scissors and then grabbed another section and snipped it to the same length. It was so uneven that he finally took the razor and began to shape up the back which I had told him I wanted shaved up like a man’s. He worked a long time to try to get it even.

When I got home I could see how uneven it was and trimmed up the long side of the front a little and have been slowly evening it up around the ears, but… I got a cut that looks like a man’s! Now that it has started growing out it is very prone to sticking out in odd places. The only good thing was that now my hair doesn’t look so grayI
