PSCS

It’s a little past 11pm and we wrapped up our last PSCS meeting about 20 minutes ago. Fortunately for Melinda and me, this meeting was at our house so we didn’t have to add in transportation time (like the four committee members who came over). In case you were wondering, it’s the time of the school year that has a lot of added meetings, most having something to do with enrollment questions.

Anyway, my point is that I have PSCS on my mind right now so went looking for an image in support. I found this one, one of a handful of original PSCS webpage icons drawn back in 1995 by Brenda, Melinda’s sister. I always liked this icon a lot. It was used to accompany a page we had to promote people’s homepages.

Speaking of the old PSCS webpage, you might be able to view it at the Internet Wayback Machine. I did the HTML coding myself. By hand.

Today’s Prompt: What were you doing in 1995?

  1. I was developing my second career as a lighting designer – building my base of clients, mostly modern dance choreographers and semi-professional theatre or ballet companies. Theatre had been my first love from junior high school on. As a teacher I was head of the drama department at the high school where I taught English.

After a hiatus of several years raising children, I went back to school to get an MFA and began my second career in early 1994! Besides my work in Boston and New York, I worked with one choreographer who took me to Spain, Venezuela and Ecuador and paid me!! It was most interesting being an older woman in a technical field which in other countries was dominated by MEN!

IT was a good life which I pursued for fifteen years! I do miss it sometimes, but now content myself watching live dance (well I admit I mostly watch the lighting) and documentaries about dance. I highly recommend the documentary just out called Pina about a famous German choreographer! IT is beautiful and fascinating.

  2. I love seeing olden-days PSCS stuff. Thanks for digging this up! And kudos for cranking out the HTML code by hand, back in the good old days. Kellen would be proud – even if he’s a bit judgmental about the code itself LOL.

In 1995, I was learning how to navigate the world as a single mom of two little guys. Tynor was just a year old, Kellen turned 5 that year. Tough times, but the world keeps spinning and it all makes us what we are today. Wouldn’t have my youngest two without that life-changing year.
