This photo was taken many years ago on, get this, a cruise ship.
It’s of Ella (on the right) and her cousin Olivia out on the dance floor. It was just the two of them and it was pretty darn fun to watch them.
Ella has always wanted to dance. To nurture her desire, when she was a preschooler we signed her up for a class called “Creative Dance.” At the first session, Melinda and I tried to spy on her without being seen (to see if she was having fun) by peeking through the tiny window in the door. We watched her spin and twirl and move, all with a smile on her face. Confident she had a great time, when class ended we asked her, “Did you have fun?”
Her sweet and profound answer was as prompt as it was telling. “I don’t see how they can call it CREATIVE dance when they tell you what to do!” she exclaimed.
Today’s Question: Do you like to dance?

Love this picture. Brings back wonderful memories for a grandmother.
I think I love to dance, but find that my inhibitions keep me from being ‘creative’ or even feeling comfortable doing any kind of formal dancing. I never learned how to dance other than a little jitterbugging in high school, but there have been two experiences in my life where I felt the wonder of dancing freely.
One was when I was asked to dance by a very accomplished dancer and ice skater. I tried to beg off explaining I did not really know how to dance. He said, Don’t worry, I will lead you! Off we went and I was twirling, flying, floating, and elevated in spirit! It was wonderful.
Fast forward about thirty years when I attended a gathering of older women who have drumming sessions at the end of our day long activities. I told one of the women I knew best that I really wanted to dance, but… was too inhibited. She encouraged me to come with an openness to “dancing” which was really just moving with the music. That night, I put on a floor length dress with a wide skirt, kicked off my shoes, and just swayed, twirled, flowed with the sound and danced unselfconsciously until my spirit was at peace. I felt as free as a child!
So, yes, I love to dance!!
